Make app more tolerant of GPS loss in predictable situations (tunnels)

This topic obviously has a loooong history…

Is the current solution (stoppung at the last known GPS position) considered final and satisfactory?

I am currently navigating my way through Norway and was wondering if there is still room for improvement or I just have to figure out how to use Kurviger in a better way.

Nowdays, the app obviously knows where the tunnels are and would be therefore able to determine if an exit (or a roundabout in Tromsø) is in a place where a GPS will definitely not be available.

In this case it might be useful to show what the junction looks like on the screen and how to navigate through it instead of showing the last section of the map, where the GPS was available.

This should be highlighted by appropriate message (e.g., “Next junction in Tunnel, 1.6km from enterance, GPS unavailable”).

I understand that these are low priority corner cases, but may still be worth improving.

We are still looking into improving this further. Unfortunately, this is a bigger change and as you mentioned, it is not the highest priority right now. So this is not forgotten

Today I had 19 tunnels on the route, but only one was “critical” in terms of having to take the turn shortly after the tunnel. I was aware of this one in advance, so it wasn’t a problem.

Tomorrow I have 37 tunnels on the route, so let’s see how it plays out. :slightly_smiling_face:

BTW, Kurviger navigation now mastered 7 days of our tour in Norway and apart from the two strange turns I reported it worked quite satisfactory. The time estimation appear to be a bit exaggerated - we finished every route in at least 20% shorter time and we were largely observing the speed limits.

Thank you for sharing this info.

I agree with @t00thl355. I am also looking to improve this more.
