App: WunderLINQ

Hallo,

Dear Gentlemen, @devemux86

from my point of view this is a huge opportunity for both WunderLINQ AND Kurviger as well.

BMW has a big market share in Motorcycles and many BMW Motorcycles have got the control system mentioned in the Videos above. Currently bike buyers/drivers need to stick to the Garmin Navigator VI offered by BMW in order to use the bike’s control system.
No doubt it is safer to drive without moving your hand away from the handle bar.
The process of looking on the screen and thinking what you like to do with your SatNav / Navigation System is similiar in controlling either of currently available solutions at the market.

I think, there’s a big chance for Kurviger as an Android app on BMW Motorcycles.

I would use it as well.

If Kurviger developer is not willing to integrate I will switch away to another software provider as well.
Either I buy a separate iPhone in order to use with Scenic App or I find another solution to be able to use WunderLINQ.
@driver001 to which solution did you switch?

Best Regards,
bmwfreerider

Hello Gentlemen, @bmwfreerider

I´m not driver001 , but I do share your opinion and I do also endorse to your statement in all points.
I would like to see the integration in Kurviger also, but it seems there are some reasons not to do it.

So I did the last step already: I´ve bought a used iPhone as a second device runing the Scenic App and it´s fulfilling my requirements.
Anyway I will have a look for any progress in Kurviger. And… who knows? Maybe I will give it another try some day.

Best Regards,
René

Dear friends of WunderLINQ,
WunderLINQ is really a very useful invention!

BUT please have more respect to the work and preferences of the developer of Kurviger App. It is ONLY 1 (in words ONE) person which is giving us all together the chance to use a very fine routing and navigation app!

Sometimes i think there are people, which are not able to understand, why at the current time the developer is not able to integrate WunderLINQU! Their beggging is similar to some children in the Kindergarden. I regret, to make such a post. But as written above, please more respect to the developer.

I think you have to think and decide in a economic way if you have limited resources (and just one developer for a non trivial app is limited). Especially if there are still features to be implemented concerning the major part of your customers, not just a quite small group of them.

Let’s face the facts: we are talking about a hardware gadget which had 87 supporters on kickstarter, right? That’s not an amount which I’d call a “critical mass” which justifies neglecting implementation tasks more generally valuable.

Don’t get me wrong: I really think that WunderLINQ is a useful solution. But it’s still very specialized. And maybe a developer who doesn’t even have access to one of these gadgets shies away from implementing support for it because he can’t test it like he should before he assumes responsibility that it’ll work properly in combination with his app (just “simulating” it’s behaviour by using some bluetooth keyboard maybe isn’t enough here).

4 posts were split to a new topic: CI Control

What could be done is a simple integration like in OsmAnd (which has 678 contributors):
i.e. zoom in / out, escape back, …

Will be supported as part of the external input devices feature:

I think that would be quite enough and many would be happy.

for me the basic zoom function would be great.
@Thorsten_Meier asks for this as well.
I could also provide my private Wunderlinq for testing until mid May.

as many BMW drivers are silver agers, they might not even have heard of Kickstarter or do online researches.
But I assume, they might look also for a solution to control their Android phone via the handlebar wheel.
I do understand that everybody has got limited resources, but see chances for a big market.
I would refer to the kurviger App, when I meet other bikers in the Dolomites, the Carpathians or the High Tatras.

You can test it in Kurviger 1.13.2 (Beta).

@Thorsten_Meier thanks for testing that and the feedback! :slightly_smiling_face:

Super!

The new integration is working nicely, thanks for adding it. The next WunderLINQ app beta will support opening Kurviger and Kurviger routing.

Is there a way to launch Kurviger app and have it start routing immediately? Right now the user has to use controls or presses to highlight the OK button and press it. If not maybe an app option or a URL argument to start routing to the first point.

The app can be started via its package name like all Android apps / activities.

If mean app urls or intents like in above documentation, there are no available such functions in app.
I may see it in the future when there is more free time, now there are the basics as discussed above.

Thanks for your speedy reply. I do have launching the app without interrupting current navigation and launching the app to start navigating worked out. I was just wondering if I can remove the step below for the user to start routing.

No, it’s import dialog appearing when importing new routes.

OK, that’s what I thought. Regardless I think our mutual users will be happy.
