The area around the Welzheimer Wald and the Löwensteiner Berge is one of my favorite areas for motorcycling. It features a massive amount of curves, not much traffic, beautiful nature, and narrow back roads. The area is known for its huge amount of mills. The area offers a lot of forest (as the name “Wald” suggests) and small lakes, so it’s the ideal place for a tour in summer, even when the temperatures are high - there is always some water around to dip in.

We start at the Ebnisee at the motorcycle meeting point. You could also start from the Remstal, like Schorndorf or Lorch. In the beginning we mostly follow very narrow roads towards Murrhardt. Shortly before Murrhardt you will come across a very steep part - 18%, that’s not something you see every day. From there the route leads through some of the outskirts of Murrhardt, if you feel like ice cream, there is a nice place in the city center.

From Murrhardt you continue on mostly narrow small roads to Wüstenrot. If you are into “Bausparen” there is a Bauspar Museum in Wüstenrot. Bausparen is not my cup of tea  so we didn’t visit the museum. I highly recommend the road from Wüstenrot to Spiegelberg though. That’s why we will revisit this road on our way back. A lot of rather tight corners and excellent pavement.

The destination of this ride was theBurg Stettenfels, which is kind of close to Heilbronn, so the last 5 km are quite busy. Anyway, the Burg Stettenfels offers a nice beergarden with a nice view over the area. We ordered two alcohol-free wheat beers and enjoyed the view. As you can see below, the beer garden is huge and can be busy on the weekends. If you are into castles, you can visit the castle itself, which is pretty nice and you can essentially park in front of the castle - so there is no hike involved.

For the return trip, I decided to reuse quite some roads. I think these roads were really great and definitely worth revisiting. If you would like to take a different road back, you could visit the Löwensteiner Platte a famous biker meeting point in the area. Below is a picture of one of the mills of the area, you might spot some more along in the area :sunglasses:.
