When working with avoidances, for example “Avoid ferries” or “Avoid main roads” certain types of roads get penalized (like ferries).
We try to provide sane defaults that usually work. For a more detailed planning experience it can help to change these defaults and to change the strength of these avoidances.
One good example is the option “Avoid unpaved roads”. While you might want to avoid them, you are willing to accept short stretches of unpaved roads, if the detour around would be too long. Right now this option either blocks unpaved roads or not. When changing the strength of avoidances, you can reduce that strength.
