App: Screen orientation options

Maybe there was a misunderstanding.
I have set:

  • in Android settings: lock rotation
  • in Kurviger: Settings | Application | Screen orientation | System settings
Then all apps stayed e.g. in portrait, but Kurviger still rotates.

When I set:

  • in Kurviger: Settings | Application | Screen orientation | Portrait
    Then Kurviger stays in Portrait.

So probably no issue, because who needs Kurviger in fixed orientation can do this in Kurviger settings.

Will be restored in next minor release! :slightly_smiling_face:

Kurviger 1.4.2 was released with restored screen orientation.

Hmm,
Why not use 4 options in Settings | Application | Screen orientation?

  • System
  • Portrait
  • Landscape
  • rotate (ignore System Setting) as in V1.4.1

That would make probably @hanzani1 happy.

Manfred

@hanzani1 describes that situation is solved if change screen orientation in device settings?

Or can change screen orientation to Portrait only in app settings and report what happens?

Must explain clearly what device and what app settings are enabled and how device responds.

I think my device (Samsung Galaxy S7, Android 8.0) behaves very similar.
It is not possible to have have Apps in 180°
(exept Google maps in Navigation mode - and only in navigation mode)
The device has only 2 options:

  • lock rotation
  • allow rotation

Behaviour of V1.4.2

Device in allow rotation mode

  1. Kurviger: Setting | Application | Screen-orientation | system-setting
    Possible orientation: 0°, 90°, 270°
  2. Kurviger: Setting | Application | Screen-orientation | Portrait
    Possible orientation: 0°
  3. Kurviger: Setting | Application | Screen-orientation | landscape
    Possible orientation: 90°, 270°

Device in lock rotation mode (activated in portrait orientation)

  1. Kurviger: Setting | Application | Screen-orientation | system-setting
    Possible orientation: 0°
  2. Kurviger: Setting | Application | Screen-orientation | Portrait
    Possible orientation: 0°
  3. Kurviger: Setting | Application | Screen-orientation | landscape
    Possible orientation: 90°, 270°

Behaviour of V1.4.1 (from memory, can’t test anymore)

Device in allow rotation mode

  1. Kurviger: Setting | Application | Screen-orientation | system-setting
    Possible orientation: 0°, 90°, 180°, 270°

Device in lock rotation mode

  1. Kurviger: Setting | Application | Screen-orientation | system-setting
    Possible orientation: 0°, 90°, 180°, 270°

The behavior of portrait an landscape haven’t changed IIRC.

Thanks @linux-user for the detailed report!

(a test device here with different settings insists to enable explicitly 180 degrees )

Seems the most elegant solution, where can override device settings, while keeping regular options for all other users.

Hi,

In the latest update the reverse portrait mode doesnt work anymore.(motorola G6)

Hans

Above description wasn’t clear enough to understand what exactly settings in device or application had changed and worked before.

What happens in your device if set in application the Settings | Application | Screen orientation to Portrait?

I don’t know how to write it clearer than described above

IIRC the behavior between V1.4.1 and V1.4.2 haven’t changed when explicitly set
application settings in
Settings | Application | Screen orientation | Portrait
or
Settings | Application | Screen orientation | Landscape

Manfred

My above comment was not about your description!

It was an answer to @hanzani1. :slightly_smiling_face:

I can expand the available options for screen orientation in next version to cover all cases:

  • System (use device setting)
  • Portrait
  • Landscape
  • Reverse portrait
  • Reverse landscape
  • Sensor (use sensor, like in 1.4.1)

Hi all,

With Device on “auto rotate” & application on “map rotation” switched on -> reverse portrait not possible in my motorola G6.

With Device on “portrait” & application on “map rotation” switched on -> only portrait works in my device.

With device on portrait and application “map rotation” switched off -> only portrait works.

So for me in the newest version I think there is no way to have reverse portrait.

hope this helps !

Hans

@hanzani1 what happens if change the above in application, does reverse portrait works?

Map rotation in navigation settings is about rotation of map and has nothing to do with screen orientation.

Sorry I was in the wrong menu :frowning:

OK so I have 2 device settings “portrait” and “auto -rotate” and with neither of the 3 app settings can I have a reverse portrait.

On portrait it stays in portrait.

best
Hans

@hanzani1 thanks for the extra feedback!

In such cases the new Sensor option will help. :slightly_smiling_face:

Implemented in Kurviger 1.5.

I have the same issue that it roates on me sometimes too. After a few mins it fixes itself. Though it was just me having the issue.

Have you set a specific screen orientation in settings?
Otherwise it’s natural the device screen to auto rotate.
