Usecase:
In certain situations the recalculation may lead to a new route which either deviates from the planned route or whole parts of the route are omitted. As the user has currently not sufficient information, it can lead to frustration about the changed tour.
Example:
I drive this little tour with recalcuation.
At the crossing I do not follow the correct green arrow. Instead I drive to waypoint 5.
The recalculation recognizes this “shortcut” of the route and the loop is gone.
Current workarounds:
- Stay on the route (but sometimes not possible for any reason)
- Drive with no-recalculation (due to suppressed recalcuation the planned route is shown, at least until recalculation, what is an active decision of the user); but it is no general option for me.
- Planned tour as overlay - see next text.
My personal workaround:
I add the current planned tour to my overlays …
… choose the color and width:
The overlay is shown in the navigation:
Advantage:
In comparison to the changed route above I still can see the planned route here.
Now I can compare easily against the red line of the track, what part of route I have yet visited and decide what to do (add waypoints, turn, follow the overlay).
Proposal:
This procedure is creative, but not necessarily intuitiv for the user. It requires some thoughts and actions before starting the tour.
My idea is to make it easier and more obvious for the user by adding another default overlay “Planned tour for navigation”. When navigation is started, Kurviger copies the route to the overlay.
The user can choose his favorite color and width.
- This overlay should not be shown in planning mode.
- The user can easily switch the visibility in the overlay manager
- Switching visibility is even possible when the navigation is paused, as the button for the overlay manager is availble in paused (planning) mode.
