Kurviger on Android car?
Alternative app as workaround?

I suspect that it’s not in the hands of the developers of kurviger if and when there will be an integration with Android Auto (or how the product is now called).

Since I would like to use kurviger in a convertible as well as a motorbike, but I don’t want to install an additional screen (smartphone) next to the Mazda MZD, I have the following question.

Is there an app that is compatible with Android Auto and can import the gpx files that I export from kurviger?

Ideally, of course, this wonder app would be able to navigate. But for now I would be happy if at least the route (or the track) was shown on a moving map.

Hello,
in the meantime I have made some progress in the above topic. With version 19 (as beta) Sygic is running under Android Auto, at least in principle.

What is “very different” with Sygic is the whole handling save/import/export, at least if you are used to kurviger.de.
My current work-around runs as follows.
Since I have found no way to import routes exported from kurviger directly into Sygic (neither as gpx nor as itn), I use the export function from kurviger and there “Generate Link”.
I scan the QR code with my smartphone and when you click the link it contains, kurviger starts and then Sygic. The route is then displayed in Sygic, but sometimes with significant differences in the course.

As far as I understand, Sygic imports only the waypoints and not the calculated route, let alone the track.
If you want to come as close as possible to the desired course, additional waypoints are therefore necessary.

There is then a somewhat unique method in Sygic to save the route as a favorite. So you can load all the routes for a vacation and save as a “Sygic file”.

My interim conclusion is mixed.
On the one hand, I find it great how smoothly Sygic runs under Android Auto as beta. On the other hand, I miss all the functions to which I have become accustomed in kurviger but very much.

Hallo,
mittlerweile bin in o.g. Thema etwas weiter gekommen.

Will man dem gewünschten Verlauf möglichst nahe kommen, sind zusätzliche Wegpunkte also notwendig.

Hi Youngtime,
the workaround sounds great - but it doesn’t work for me. When scanning with my smartphone the kurviger is starting and afterwards Chrome browser but not the Sygic app.
How can I tell Android to start the Sygic navigation app instead?

Cheers
Nick

Hallo @Youngtimer ,

Nick

Hi Nick,
what you describe is completely correct. When Chrome is started, you should see something like a download message from Chrome. There should be whether the file, in this case the html link should be opened.
I have made a few screenshots, there should be clear the procedure.

Hi Nick,
was Du beschreibst ist so völlig richtig.

Hi @Youngtimer ,

unfortunately, Chrome is not offering an HTML file for download as seen on your screenshot but the .gpx file. And Sygic will not open this file format…

I am using the generate link as proposed.

Thanks for your thoughts
Nick

Hi @Youngtimer ,

The issue was sitting in front of the pc - I had to select “export to Sygic html” before creating the link…

Issue solved!

Thanks!
Nick

Es gibt Neuigkeiten zu Android Auto: https://www.golem.de/news/auto-google-oeffnet-android-auto-fuer-neue-apps-2104-155499.html

There is news about Android Auto: https://www.golem.de/news/auto-google-oeffnet-android-auto-fuer-neue-apps-2104-155499.html

Requires writing a new app → significant resources and time.

Not in the foreseeable future, sorry.

Better use the app on the phone, it has more features.

Hello,
by now I’m not so sure whether the scarce developer resources of the kurviger team should be used on AndroidAuto (AA).
I have been using Sygic as a beta tester for a few weeks now and have already described here how awkward the current work-around is to transfer kurviger routes to Sygic.
Sygic under AA is currently still missing many, from my point of view essential, functions. For example, it is currently not possible to load a saved route under AA. This is only possible if you start the route on the mobile device without an AA connection and then connect to AA. Sygic in itself is not rich in functions, especially in comparison to kurviger, and some of these are now missing in Sygic under AA. (Not to mention the quality of user support).

Nevertheless, the beta phase seems to end on 15.04.2021, as mails are currently being sent out actively promoting the AA option. For the AA option alone, 40€ are to be paid in addition to the map licence already purchased.

Presumably the effort is enormous, as devemux86 writes. Whether this justifies such a price remains to be seen.

For the time being, I will use Kurviger “natively” again, i.e. on the mobile device, as the function is more important to me than the “seamless integration” into the entertainment system in the car.

Hallo,

Plus a critical classification of Sygic’s data protection - from Wikipedia:

Criticism
In 2012, Stiftung Warentest found a lack of encryption of user data at Sygic as part of a study.[8]
In 2020, as part of an investigation by Norwegian journalists and data protection activists, it became known that smartphone apps from the company Sygic systematically create movement profiles of their users.[9][10] This data is sold, among others, to the company Venntel in the U.S., which in turn also resells it to U.S. intelligence agencies such as the FBI and CIA.[11][12]

Moin, z.B. Hoda, Harley, BMW. Da werden noch einige bestimmt folgen.

Welche von BMW kann das?
