Import GPX file with outbound and return routes

Soon I will be joining a Ride-Fest, the organizers have posted online the routes as gpx files. However, kurviger as a problem (??I have a problem ??): each route is a two-parter with part 1 is leaving the campground and going to the furtherest point, generally a lunch stop. Part 2 is a return route from the stop to the campground, but along a different route. Kurviger only reads part 1, but also shows both parts as an overlay. I then use the part 2 overlay to manually at waypoints. Any way to get Kurviger to plot both parts automagically??

map: lilac line is the outbound, dark red is the return

Can you upload the gpx file here? Then we can have a look at it.

You may import the first GPX and get then the route ready to ride in Kurviger. If you want to enhance the first GPX with the second GPX to merge both files this is possible, but not automatically. Here is how it works:

Then you see a preview of the 1st gpx file to be imported

Click on import and you have the first part loaded in Kurviger

Now you want to extend the loaded gpx1 with the gpx2. You click again on import

and chose option ‘extend route’:

Then you have merged both routes and can use the new route for navigation:

I think this is what you were looking for?

This indicates that it is one GPX file that contains two TRK sections.
I have created a test file that illustrates the situation: both (50,8 km).gpx (108,8 KB)
In GPS Track Editor it looks like this:

GPS Track Editor, BaseCamp, Calimoto and Cruiser have no problem with this file. However, the import into kurviger.de does not work, although the entire track is displayed in the overlay - try it out.

Zaphod_42: You are correct. I appreciate the extensive help that Guenther offered, but apparently we miscommunicated.
I have attached a sample file, as Maxx18 suggested. But as Zaphod said, these sort of gpx files are not digested by Kurviger. I found a somewhat tedious workaround by adding points manually over an overlay. This works in a “goodish” fashion, but as these are sightseeing routes, it is not clear that all POI will be indicated.
thx to all!

There is a workaround using gpxshaping.de. On gpxshaping.de:

  • import GPX, select route part 1 (08 HollyRiver Pt1 132 TP)
  • save route and track (08 HollyRiver Pt1 132 TP Shp.gpx)
  • import GPX, select route part 2 (08 HollyRiver Pt2 148 TP)
  • save route and track (08 HollyRiver Pt2 148 TP Shp.gpx)

Then go to Kurviger and use method described by @Guenther . I recommend to activate “Import also as overlay”.

Remark: The GPX you provided is in Garmin format - with this workaround also the ViaPoint / ShapingPoint information of the Garmin format is transfered to Kurviger.

Inbetween the Kurviger Import has the new option “Import track only”. Using it provides the complete tour but without any predefined waypoint:

Therefore your workaround is much better, but complex. Preferably kurviger.de should have the same import capabilities as gpxshaping.de.

Informative for those who like to experiment a little bit. :grinning:

The Garmin gpx file contains a (wpt)waypoint list, 4 (rte)routes (2 x double) and 2 (trk)tracks.
Once both routes are correctly (single) present the conversion via the gpx rte is simple.
Note: Those rtept with a sym “waypoint” are here promoted to be shaping points !
Both the tracks are usefull as an overlay to adjust the routing result if necessary.

Not supported is the gpx (poi) waypoint list with extra info in desc nor does it show the corresponding Garmin wpt sym Icons.
Offering this extra can only be done in Locus map after the import as a gpx TBT navigation track.

For Locus users here. Locus reads the file but does not produce it !

Exactly. When importing the sample file into gpxshaping.de, it asks which of the 4 roads you want to import. That would be a nice workaround for Kurviger if supporting those Garmin multiple routes is too difficult.
