Ignore seasonal closures (e.g. Mountain passes)

In the alps, a lot of the Mountain passes have a seasonal closures from e.g. November to Mai. These closures are fixed in the OSM raw data. Currently (end of march) it is for example to plan a route passing the “Col de la Cayolle” in the french alps (-> Link).

Therefore, I would like to suggest to add a function, which ignores seasonal closures or maybe also all temporarily closures in order to be able to plan in the winter time.

Probably mean the “Show potentially closed roads” experimental feature in website advanced options?

Thank you for your reply. I know this graphical feature, but it doesn’t influence the routing itself.

Can you please add a link from the route? Maybe the OSM data is not correct.

In my opinion, the problem has nothing to do with Col de la Cayolle. The “fault” is 7 km further south. Someone installed a barrier there - whether this is true can only be clarified on site.

Hi,
Link is given by canario - on my tablet link works …
I also would appreciate a feature “Ignore seasonal closures (e.g. Mountain passes)” - it would give the possibility to plan routes for summer now.

Regards Markus

Thank you very much for this information. I had a closer look at this location and it seems that not the barrier itself creates the problem, but the route segment some meters in front of the barrier. This segment has a conditional acces from december to april. In other words with this route segment (in reality the barrier) starts the seasonal closure.

@rumbrummer

@rumbrummer

Thanks Link I have found. The function you want to use is already available Website: Conditional restrictions. If curvy but still not long route is in most cases a problem with the OSM data before https://docs.kurviger.de/de/web/faq/incorrect_routes .

Thank you @luckytown. If I got it right, then I know this graphical feature, but it doesn’t influence the routing itself. It shows potential conditional restrictions, but this doesn’t help/support to plan the route during this period of closure.

correct the function indicates that the path is blocked at certain times. In your case I think @zaphod_42 is right. It is because of the barrier " Barriers

Kurviger drives through barriers such as ‘gate’ or ‘lift_gate’, if the tag ‘access=yes’ is present. If not, Kurviger assumes by default that this barrier is not passable. Kurviger considers access , motorcycle , motor_vehicle and vehicle . If a barrier is passable for vehicles but not for horses, then you should enter vehicle=yes instead of the general access=yes.

These barriers can be found very easily with this Overpass Query." https://docs.kurviger.de/de/web/faq/incorrect_routes

Hi,
thanks to Canario, zaphod_72 and luckytown.
I fully agree - blocking point seems not to be the pass “Cayolle” itself, but the barrier zaphod_72 mentioned.

Hallo,

Ciao Markus

Thank you for this advice. This would mean, that we don’t have a seasonal closure, but a total closure. I guess it would be possible to give the barrier the same tag as the route segment has (“access:conditional”), but then there is still the routing problem in winter time.

Changing the tag to a general “access=yes” for e.g. vehicles wouldn’t be the right way.

@Canario

Wenn ich die FAQ, https://docs.kurviger.de/de/web/faq/incorrect_routes, richtig interpretiere müsste folgendes da stehen: access:conditional=no @ (Nov-May) und vehicle=yes. Mehr steht noch unter https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/DE:Conditional_restrictions.

If I correctly interpret the FAQ, https://docs.kurviger.de/de/web/faq/incorrect_routes, the following should be there: access: conditional = no @ (Nov-May) and vehicle = yes. More is available at https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/DE:Conditional_restrictions.

I read up on Col de la Cayolle. According to the Wiki " The Col de la Cayolle together with the Col des Champs and the Col d’Allos forms a popular circuit for racing cyclists. [1]](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Col_de_la_Cayolle#cite_note-1) The ascent from Barcelonnette is equipped with special signs for cyclists.". I interpret it to mean that only cyclists are allowed to ride up there, is that correct?

In France, cycling is a kind of national sport. These signs emerge the latest, as soon as a stage of the Tour de France passed this passport/col. The signs serve the many hobby riders for a better orientation and power management. On some Cols they also have a marked route on the right side of the incline. Here a sample of the Col d’Izoard.:

In the alps maritimes I frequently experienced some passports closed for touristic cycling events on special days, but in general all the cols are open for motorcars/motorcycles.

Thanks for the explanation. :slightly_smiling_face:

If I try to route above Col de la Cayolle with Openstreemap it works fine:

Hello Gerhard, on OSM the node is: 800966299 12 days ago by Eifelstromer were processed. Kurviger needs about 1-2 weeks for the corresponding updates. Personally, I would like you to share route examples via Kurivger. It is often very difficult to find the places…

Danke!

Sorry - I thought it might be helpful to show that it works in openstreetmaps.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Hello Jürgen no problem, at OSM I or someone else can’t find out where Kurviger “gets stuck”, in this case a barrier, therefore my request to share a sample route via Kurviger if possible.
