Help with offline mode

I want to use the off-line mode.
I have downloaded the offline map for the region I want to use.
do i just simply turn off the mobile data or are there more “steps”.
I cannot find the instructions on how to proceed. Please help and advise if there is a link.
As a rough estimate, how much less battery does the offline mode use. I realise this can vary from phone to phone but some kind of idea would be helpful thank you.

There is no “offline mode”. If the map has been downloaded before (e.g. Offline Manager), the app won’t download the map. See also our offline maps guide: Offline Maps Guide [Kurviger Knowledgebase]

I can’t give you any numbers regarding battery consumption. This should be lower, but I don’t expect huge differences for the app itself. Flight mode of the phone will reduce battery in different apps as well.

Hi there thanks for your reply.
I’m getting a bit confused because you state “there is no offline mode.” I found this in the instructions-

  • The route calculation requires you to have an internet connection, but the navigation itself does not require an internet connection, when using offline maps.
  • Is this correct?? would you mind clarifying if we understand each other?
  • I am under the impression that I can download off-line maps then switch the mobile data off (and also Wi-Fi) and be able to use the navigation mode obviously then without mobile data or Wi-Fi. I was thinking this might help in areas of poor reception. Would be happy if you could clarify or correct me as the case maybe thanks

You have to have an internet connection to load a route or to start navigation if you are not somewhere on the loaded route. As soon as you are on the route the offline navigation works. If you deviate from the planned route you may only navigate back on your own, no recalculation less internet connection possible. If you are off the loaded route and know how to get to it on your own, then offline navigation works. For all other usecases an internet connection is mandatory - at least for the durance of planning or loading a route.

thanks that clears that up

Just to clarify, we don’t have a designated offline mode. We have a hybrid setup where the app supports some features while being offline, but it’s not like you can switch the app to “offline mode”. I know some apps have that as an explicit mode.

You can start navigation and then put the phone in airplane mode. This turns off WiFi and mobile data. This is what I have done to test offline maps in the past. I doubt if there is any measurable difference in battery consumption. The display is the big power consumer. I ride by audio only, without using the display.
