Export function to BMW Connected Ride App / Connected Ride Navigator (CRN)

Hello to the forum.
This is my first post so please bear with me if I’m not immediately familiar with all the customs but I’m trying!

As a long time BaseCamp sufferer (it was a MIGHTY program but I felt I had to re-familiarise myself every season) Kurviger is a real boon and REALLY intuitive.
My route planning requirements are probably rather simple. Usually for holidays, a winding tour from A to Z with a few sights scattered in, nice car parks, beer gardens, restaurants that I want to go to as B, C, D, E etc… The whole thing is exported as a .gpx file in OneDrive, imported into the BMW Connected Ride app (iPhone) and then automatically synchronised with the BMW Connected Ride Navigator so that it can be started there and driven as planned with all defined intermediate destinations. In the event of deviations or route closures, the route is then returned to - and that’s it.

A piece of cake on the Kurviger.de side, but the problems start with BMW. Either the route is not as planned, or it turns 5 waypoints into 28 without the ones I have defined myself standing out in particular (not to mention ‘named overlays’). Somehow it works, but somehow it never becomes a coherent route with the explicit waypoints on the route.

I have read REALLY A LOT and have come to terms with the fact that the problem is probably on the BMW side, because there is no difference between ShapingPoints and Waypoints. So far so bad.

However, I have now stumbled across a competitor called ‘Tourstart.org’ in another forum. In terms of usability, price (I’m a paying member of Kurviger), appearance, etc., I don’t think it’s a serious competitor, but there is one point that leaves me speechless.
I’m a layman and don’t understand much about the formats in the background, but there is an export to ‘BMW Motorrad Connected’.
The result is, as usual, a .gpx, which is imported and looks exactly as I expect it to in the Connected Ride app. Start, destination and exactly two waypoints in between, as defined.
Due to lack of time and the weather, I haven’t been able to test drive it yet, but at first glance it looks like THIS is exactly the missing link that would make me almost wishful thinking, so can someone from the team please tell me that you are working on something like this?!!!? From my naive point of view it’s “ONLY” an additional export format in a long list and would make the entire BMW community, who are, more or less, dependent on the Connected Ride App or the CRN due to a lack of alternatives, happy in one fell swoop.

Anyway: THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR GREAT WORK!!!

Hi emm.be,

thanks for bringing this up. Yet we cannot offer the same functionality, I can only give you a hint regarding export options. I practised that method with TomTom and Garmin Users and the routes worked quite fine, maybe not always 100% but close to.

When you export a route choose following parameters:

Would be cool if you could give it a try and let me know the outcome

I think it would be nice if you could share a typical planned route from Kurviger (right menu - share - copy the shortlink https…), and also upload the gpx file from the other app, so we can check, try and learn. Many thanks in advance.

I am also a user of BMW Connectedride Navigator from Basecamp, I can tell you that the big problem is on the BMW side, even if you try to import the gpx from the app it puts the waypoints in alphabetical order thus also modifying the route, if instead you transfer them directly from the PC to the CRN via USB instead it works well, which makes you understand that even between the two systems that should work in harmony, there are problems. Consider that the CRN does not use Shapingpoints, at the moment the tracks performed on Kurviger work well even if the WPs are then renamed, I had created a post on this, let’s hope the thing can be resolved or some function implemented. However I still have not found an app that can work really well with BMW to be able to create complicated routes, most likely I will replace it with a more performing device.
