Yet another idea to extend the functionality of the existing UI… If someone from the group is really low on fuel, we would just want to get to the nearest gas station. Being a group, we would not bother much if it is Aral, Shell or some indepentent gas station, the only criteria is distance, so it would be practical to reduce the workload while riding and just select the closest one.
Implementation proposal: use a long press on “Gas stations” button to automatically start the navigation to the closest gas station, skiping the dialog where you can select one of the five proposed.
[EN] I don’t find that ideal. A petrol shortage doesn’t happen suddenly, so I usually want to know where and when there are (open) petrol stations on my route in the direction I’m travelling.
btw, how does Kurviger select the petrol stations?
In the example, the next petrol station (yellow arrow) is not even highlighted or selected, but another one (red arrow) that is further away and not along the route. I don’t find that very helpful.
I also suspect (without having tested this further) that the order in which petrol stations can be selected is based purely on the distance to the petrol stations in question. The journey time to the petrol station may have a completely different priority, but this is not yet calculated.
The wish to have this “shortcut” functionality is independent of the existing functionality (they can coexost) and the quality of the currently implemented algorithm.
However, I agree that the quality of the algorithm is the key to the succesfull fuction. That is why we have beta testers and feedback like yours - to improve things.
I would agree. It is not a full featured app for petrol stations. If I am this short on petrol, I think I would stop and not waste the rest.
Another way could be something like - first station by distance (meters, not time, as your fuel is low), then the others along the route. No special button or long press required.
Yes, some clever code to select petrol stations along the route in different distances of the route, so the driver has only a limited set.
If I remember correctly, the first result of the fuel station search should be closest or one of the closest fuel stations.
Yes, we are doing some simplifications to not show all fuel stations, which can result in somewhat suboptimal results for some situations. Usually this is only an issue for very short routes, for longer routes the results are typically very reasonable.
Yes, that is actually something we have on our todo list. The problem is just parsing them in a meaningful way and consider these accordingly is not super straight forward, but only some of the fuel stations have the tag. So yeah, not the highest priority if I am honest. Most fuel stations are 24/7 nowadays as well.
