App: Plus Codes

Google Maps offers the so called Plus Codes to share locations.

Would it be possible to support this format on the Kurviger website and in the app for an easy and comfortable way to import locations?

Interesting idea.

Plus codes are based on Open Location Code and seems a grid-based system like what3words.

They provide libraries and all work offline, so should be quite straightforward. :slightly_smiling_face:

Looks good. Would it also be possible to import a location from Google Maps by using the PlusCode?

It works offline with reverse geocoding and regular search for global plus codes.

Local plus codes need extra work with online geocoding for the location name.

Google Maps only shows the “local plus codes”. Google Maps might show V86P+C8, Paris, but in order to work offline, you would need the plus code 8FW4V86P+C8. AFAIK there is currently no option to read the full plus codes from GMaps.

That’s their online implementation and rather more usable inside their online ecosystem.

It’s funny to advertise an offline grid-based system and then offer it with online requirements.

Implemented in Kurviger 1.10.3.
